The First Official Party

Wednesday, Day -1, we finished setting up our theatre, then retired to our house to get ready for one of the official parties. Since we're all managers, we get in an hour earlier, get some nice food (especially the roasted vegetables) and meet and greet the higher-ups in the festival.

By the way, my sources say nice things about Merry Gentlemen, Towelhead, and any of the international films. Merry Gentleman was edited so heavily by its backers that the director asked to have his name stricken and fought to have his own director's cut submitted tot Sundance. My source tells me he has never seen such different films, and they chose the director's cut. Towelhead is by Alan Ball, writer of American Beauty and Six Feet Under.

So we went to the party and had appetizers - pita bread, hummus, potstickers, and roasted vegetables। We were also granted an open bar, meaning we did not have to give up our free drink tickets for drinks. This was good, since when I went to use one of my drink tickets, it turns out they had fallen off my wristband.

I left early with a friend. After the first couple of hours, it's less networking and more partying, and there will be plenty of time for that. Besides, we're an older demographic than many of the new volunteers, and we already have our niches carved out.

This morning (Thursday) we witnessed the aftermath. Several pre-approved guests were crashed on our couch, and one person had come in as late as 6:30 in the morning. You can tell who the experienced partygoers are, but even the most advanced practitioners slip up now and then.
